building a 10 x 12 dovetail cabin
we built this 10 x 12 cabin using 6 x 8 red pine timbers
the goal was simple
create a structure that is
repeatable
approachable
and fast to build
this was done using the dovetail cabin tools system
paired with a chainsaw
no scribing
no complex layout
just a clear process
the structure

the cabin includes:
- dovetail corner joinery
- two king posts
- ridge
- rafters with an 8/12 pitch
this gives you a complete shell and roof structure
ready for foundation, roofing, and enclosure
the process

this system is designed to remove friction
the learning curve is short
about an hour to understand the process
once you have that
you can start building
two people can complete a cabin and roof structure in a weekend
that’s the shift
from waiting
to doing
why dovetail

dovetail joinery gives you:
- mechanical lock at the corners
- strong load transfer
- clean, repeatable connections
paired with a jig
it becomes a system
not guesswork
tools and approach
we used:
