new tools, new finishes, and our timber frame kit rollout
we’ve been working toward this for a long time, and we’re excited to finally say it out loud: our next generation of tools is rolling out now.
this release cycle includes layout tool upgrades and—most importantly—the phased release of our timber frame kit.
everything here is built from the shop floor up, based on how we actually cut frames and how we teach timber framing.
layout tool upgrades for timber framing
we’ve added new markings to our layout tools to improve clarity, speed, and consistency at the bench. these changes are subtle but intentional—designed to reduce layout errors and help builders stay locked into a repeatable layout system across an entire timber frame.
if layout is where accuracy lives (and it is), these upgrades matter.
ezl release — end of january
the first release in this cycle lands at the end of january with the ezl.
the ezl is the foundation of our timber frame layout system and the first component of the timber frame kit. it allows builders to begin layout work immediately while the rest of the kit follows close behind.
timber frame kit — rolling into late february
our timber frame kit is the centerpiece of this rollout.
the star hill timber frame kit is a complete layout system designed specifically for timber framing—not general carpentry or isolated joinery.
the timber frame kit includes the ezl, ezb, and ezt.
the timber frame kit will be released in stages, with the complete kit available toward the end of february. once fully released, the timber frame kit brings the ezl, ezb, and ezt together into a cohesive, shop-ready layout system that supports full timber frame builds from start to finish.
this is a timber frame kit built for cutting real frames, not just learning individual joints.
if you’re planning a timber frame build this year, this is the system we built for that exact purpose.

chisels with cerakote — late february
alongside the timber frame kit, our chisel line will be released toward the end of february, now finished with cerakote.
the chisel lineup includes 1 1/2″ and 2″ chisels, along with 2 1/2″ and 3″ slicks.
the cerakote finish adds durability and corrosion resistance without changing the feel or balance that matters when you’re chopping joinery all day. these are working chisels, built for real frames and real shops.
why this rollout matters
we don’t release tools just to release tools. every update, finish, and system decision is about making timber framing more approachable, more repeatable, and more teachable—without watering it down.
the timber frame kit, in particular, represents how we think about building: fewer loose ends, fewer workarounds, and tools that actually work together.
more details are coming as each release goes live. for now, if you’re thinking about building a timber frame this spring, this is the window to pay attention.
