the layout system

accurate layout is the foundation of every timber frame.

included are the complete star hill layout tools:

• ezl layout tool
• ezb knee brace layout tool
• ezt tenon and mortise verification tool

these tools simplify timber frame layout by reducing measuring, minimizing mistakes, and creating repeatable results. they are designed to help builders understand reference, layout sequence, and joinery relationships rather than relying on complex calculations.

the cutting system

included are the cutting tools used throughout the star hill system:

together, these tools allow you to efficiently cut shoulders, cheeks, housings, and timber components while maintaining accuracy and control.

the edge system

sharp tools create clean joinery.

• 1-1/2″ star hill timber framing chisel
• 2-1/2″ timber framing slick
• red marking knife

the chisel handles chopping, paring, housings, mortises, and general joinery work. the slick allows fast cleanup and fine-tuning of larger surfaces. the marking knife creates precise layout lines that improve accuracy from the very beginning.

the builder’s manual

included is the star hill poly manual.

printed in a durable large-format design, the manual serves as your reference guide throughout the learning process. it covers the star hill methodology, layout sequence, joinery practices, and the systems used to move from raw timber to finished frame.
